# The European Commission says it wants the Global Plastics Treaty to cover the entire lifecycle of plastic, from production to disposal. Delegates from over 100 countries are in Geneva, Switzerland, this week negotiating on a legally binding treaty to curb plastic pollution. Global plastic production has reached 400-million tons per year; however, only nine-percent is recycled. The EU says the treaty should also include measures to phase out harmful plastic products that threaten human health and the environment.
