# The Legal Resources Centre says the Ingonyama Trust Board’s announcement that it has begun refunding residents unlawfully charged rental under lease agreements on trust-held land is a positive step. This follows a 2021 High Court ruling that the leases violated constitutional rights to customary land use. After withdrawing its appeal, the Board has now committed over four-million-rand to compensate one-thousand-602 residents. The organisation says it will monitor compliance to ensure full restitution.
