# The Department of Agriculture has issued new regulations governing meat analogue products, also known as mock or imitation meat. Products labelled as meat substitutes must now contain at least nine-percent protein. Terms like ‘chicken-style’ or ‘beef-style’ are banned under the Agricultural Product Standards Act. Acceptable names include patties, sausages, and nuggets. Inspectors and the Food Safety Agency will enforce compliance, while the Border Management Authority monitors imports. The department says consumers are now better protected.
