# The DA in the Eastern Cape is calling on premier Oscar Mabuyane to provide a modelled and tested economic mitigation strategy against the looming 30-percent US tariffs. The party says already, the 25-percent tariff levelled in April is having devastating effects on the province’s automotive sector. The DA’s Vicky Knoetze says these new tariffs effectively dismantle the benefits of the African Growth and Opportunity Act, which for decades provided South Africa with preferential access to US markets:
