OECD warns SA’s solar tariff hike may stall renewable energy growth

# The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development has raised concerns over South Africa’s ten-percent tariff hike on imported solar equipment, warning it could slow renewable energy development. The organisation states that the move may raise project costs, deter investment, and create uncertainty among investors. While aimed at supporting local manufacturing, OECD says the tariff could backfire if demand is not yet established. It urges alignment with the Renewable Energy Masterplan and recommends a phased, transparent strategy involving SARS, and other stakeholders.
