University of Cape Town reveals South Africans spend up to R1-million on weddings

# According to a University of Cape Town’s new study, South Africans spend a staggering 500-billion-rand a year on celebrations. The study indicated that some people spend up to one-million-rand on weddings and 140-thousand-rand on tombstone unveilings. It also shows that nine-thousand weddings were held across the country over 32 days, with Gauteng recording the highest number at two-thousand-70. Researchers say celebrations are an important part of the economy and social life, despite financial pressures.
