Tygerberg Hospital celebrates five decades of caring for Western Cape patients

# Tygerberg Hospital is marking its 50th anniversary, celebrating five decades of providing specialised healthcare in the Western Cape. Since opening in 1976, the hospital has treated patients with complex medical conditions and trained generations of healthcare professionals. It has also been involved in major medical breakthroughs, including South Africa’s first test-tube quadruplets in 1986 and the world’s first successful penile transplant in 2014. The hospital says its planned redevelopment will help strengthen specialised care, training and medical research for future generations.
