Kouga launches municipal battery storage project

# Kouga Municipality in the Eastern Cape has launched South Africa’s first municipal Battery Energy Storage System. Mayor Hattingh Bornman says the project will reduce electricity costs and strengthen energy resilience. The battery will charge during off-peak hours and supply electricity during expensive peak periods, saving the municipality significantly. The nearly 20-million-rand project will initially serve St Francis, Sea Vista and Cape St Francis for a three-month trial.
