# South Africa’s annual food price inflation has increased for the first time in nine months, but remains relatively moderate. Statistics South Africa says food inflation rose to 1.1-percent in August, from zero-point-nine percent in July. Overall inflation also edged up, reaching 4.4-percent from 4.3-percent. However, core inflation, which excludes fuel, food and electricity, improved slightly to 4.1-percent from 4.2 percent. Bananas and onions were among the biggest food price increases over the past year, while seasonal fruit and beetroot recorded some of the largest declines.
