SAFTU condemns the continuing loss of mineworkers’ lives at Harmony Gold [SOUND]

# The South African Federation of Trade Unions has expressed outrage at the continuing loss of mineworkers’ lives at Harmony Gold. Forty-six mineworkers have died at Harmony operations over the past five years, including eight workers this year already. In the latest incident, a worker died after a seismic event underground at the Mponeng mine in the West Rand of Gauteng last week. SAFTU’s Asive Dyani says they reject the normalisation of mine fatalities as an unavoidable cost of extracting South Africa’s mineral wealth:
