# The women’s wing of th South African National Taxi Council has launched a national summit in Gauteng aimed at combating gender-based violence and enhancing empowerment in the transport sector. The event is held in Kempton Park and brings together stakeholders, government officials and leaders to address women’s safety and transformation in the taxi industry. SANTACO spokesperson Rebecca Phala says female passengers should be able to use taxis without fear of abuse or victimisation. She says safety includes respectful treatment and ensuring women are not placed at risk during their journeys.
