# A cheesy trade dispute is proving a stumbling block in US-Mexican negotiations. The argument centres on names such as feta, manchego and Parmigiano Reggiano. The United States says those names are generic and should be available to American cheese producers exporting to Mexico. But a trade agreement between Mexico and the European Union would protect the names under geographical-indication rules. European officials say the deal cannot be changed. So while negotiators wrestle with billions of dollars in trade, they are also getting stuck over some very mature issues.
