Netflix in ambitious drive to increase content

# Online streaming service Netflix is on a record 320-billion-rand global content spending spree, to secure several major licensing agreements. The platform is adding short-form series from BuzzFeed and Vanity Fair, alongside exclusive video podcasts. Regionally, Netflix signed a landmark continental licensing partnership with South Africa’s eMedia. Under this deal, E-tv’s flagship prime-time drama The Four of Us streams across Africa less than 24 hours after its broadcast. Industry analysts view the multi-layered strategy as a direct financial offensive against YouTube’s viewer dominance.
