# Today is Afrikaans Language Day, which is celebrated nationwide by various cultural organisations and in Afrikaans schools. This year marks 150 years since the Genootskap vir Regte Afrikaners was founded in Paarl on 14 August 1875, and it is generally accepted that this is the founding day of Afrikaans. People are encouraged to buy an Afrikaans book today. This campaign is led annually by the Friends of Afrikaans.
