# Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Velenkosini Hlabisa, says municipalities should only budget for expenditure that can be financed through available revenue. This comes as the National Treasury will release the remaining 7.1-billion-rand of the 13.5-billion-rand in Local Government Equitable Share allocations withheld at the beginning of July. Hlabisa has warned municipalities to stop adopting unfunded budgets, saying the practice undermines financial sustainability and misleads communities:
