# Union federation Cosatu urges the Industrial Development Corporation to quickly create a plan to fix and reopen the Mozal aluminium plant in Mozambique. The plant has been closed because there is not enough electricity due to drought-related power shortages and high electricity costs. Mozal provides about five-thousand direct jobs and up to 25-thousand, in Mozambique and South Africa. Cosatu’s Matthew Parks warns if the plant stays closed, about 30-thousand jobs could be lost:
