# The White House has described US president Donald Trump’s meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, in Alaska on Friday as a listening session. Russia has indicated it was prepared to consider a ceasefire with Ukraine, in exchange for Kyiv withdrawing from the parts of Donbas it still controlled. Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky has rejected this. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt says Trump will head into the meeting both hopeful and measured:
