# The Western Cape government wants to fast-track the expansion of Cape Town International Airport. The number of international arrivals at the airport in December 2024 soared to 160-thousand-537. Through the Cape Town Air Access initiative, the airport is further opening the Western Cape’s skies to more tourists and destinations. Seven new airlines, through seven routes, are touching down in the province. Premier Alan Winde says that infrastructure investment is needed to enlarge the airport so that it can accommodate even more visitors in the coming years.
