# Western Cape MEC for Infrastructure, Tertuis Simmers, says the Welmoed housing development project aims to restore dignity to residents. Phase one will deliver three-thousand-296 homes and create up to six-thousand local jobs, with contractors required to employ local labour. A beneficiary verification drive will take place on 13 and 14 September. According to Simmers, bulk infrastructure upgrades worth 680-million-rand have been completed, while planning continues for roads, schools, health facilities, and a police station:
