He was speaking at the opening of the 2026 World Wagyu Conference in Stellenbosch, which has brought together international farmers, scientists and industry leaders. According to Meyer, investment in breeding technology and sustainable farming can help South African Wagyu producers compete in international markets and create more opportunities for local farmers. Wagyu beef originates from Japan and is worldwide regarded as the gold standard of luxury beef.
