# Gauteng Human Settlements MEC Tasneem Motara says rapid population growth continues to place pressure on housing, infrastructure and basic services across the province. Presenting the department’s 2026/27 budget, Motara highlighted achievements including the acquisition of land for future developments. Despite fiscal constraints, the department has allocated 5.5 -billion-rand towards housing delivery, informal settlement upgrades, hostel redevelopment and spatial transformation to improve living conditions for Gauteng residents.
