# The University of the Free State has launched the Greener SA initiative, a five-year project to plant 400-thousand trees across South Africa. Partnering with government, the Mastercard Foundation, and Ruforum, the initiative aims to boost sustainability, agroforestry, and farmer empowerment. The first 100 trees have already been planted at Paradys Experimental Farm in Bloemfontein, sponsored by the Empact Group. The university highlighted opportunities for student research, job creation, and environmental preservation, while experts stressed the role of integrated agroforestry in promoting biodiversity, food security, and resilience.
