Treasury reports strong demand for infrastructure bonds

# National Treasury Director-General Duncan Pieterse says institutional investors are showing strong confidence in the government’s infrastructure funding programme. Speaking at an Absa conference, Pieterse said the latest infrastructure bond auction attracted bids of 17.8-billion-rand, against five-billion-rand on offer, with 4.4-billion-rand allocated. He says the bonds will finance projects under the Budget Facility for Infrastructure. This includes upgrades to Transnet’s rail and port network, while creating a new long-term asset class to support South Africa’s infrastructure investment ambitions.
