# The National Transmission Company South Africa has launched the SAWEM School, a compulsory training programme ahead of South Africa’s Wholesale Electricity Market opening in April 2026. The course that began today in Gauteng, will be held three days a month. It combines theory with practical simulations to prepare producers, traders, and large consumers. The company’s Keith Bowen says certification will be mandatory, covering key topics such as balancing, settlements, credit risk, and compliance. The school aims to ensure all market participants are skilled and regulation-ready.
