# Independent non-profit think tank Africa Asia Dialogues warns against the lack of a sense of urgency from South African leaders in addressing mass shootings. Twenty-eight people were killed in Gauteng and the Western Cape over the weekend – 18 in a tavern shooting in Carletonville, and ten in Lwandle. Senior research fellow at the think-tank, Thembisa Fakude, says the scale and pattern of the attacks suggest more than ordinary crime. He says citizens are being terrorised and the violence could destabilise the country.
