Fifth-seeded Italian Flavio Cobolli needed five sets to beat Argentina’s Francisco Comesana. In the women’s draw, Kazakhstani Elena Rybakina, who is chasing the world number ranking, eased past American wildcard Thea Frodin, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the second round. Americans Coco Gauff and Madison Keys also won.
