Taiwan’s president cancels trip to Eswatini due to flight permits being revoked

# Taiwan’s president, Lai Ching-te, has cancelled his trip to Eswatini, where he was set to attend the 40th anniversary of King Mswati the Third’s accession. He accused China of putting pressure, including economic coercion, on the Seychelles, Mauritius and Madagascar to revoke ‌permission for his aircraft to fly over their territories. Taiwan’s presidential office says coercing countries to change their decisions through intimidation violates international rules and undermines the regional status quo. Eswatini, formerly known as Swaziland, is Taiwan’s only diplomatic ally in Africa.
