# Stellenbosch University Botanical Garden has appointed Annerie Senekal as its first female curator. Senekal officially took up the role on 1 July after serving as acting curator for the past nine months following the death of former curator Donovan Kirkwood last year. As a former intern who joined the garden in 2020, she will now focus on strengthening conservation, research and education, while expanding partnerships to protect threatened plant species and grow the garden’s role as a public and scientific resource.
