# The state has told the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court that former SAPS Special Task Force member Matipandile Sotheni was found with a cellphone while in custody. Prosecutor Trott Mphahlele says the phone was discovered during a prison search on 2 September and was allegedly used to communicate with someone outside the facility about his murder case. Sotheni faces 16 charges, including the alleged murder of Madlanga Commission’s Witness D known as Marius van der Merwe. The state wants more time to analyse the phone’s data. His case returns on November 2.
