South America’s largest trade bloc signs trade deal with four-nation European Free Trade Association

# South America’s largest trade bloc, Mercosur, sealed a trade deal with the four-nation European Free Trade Association, establishing a free trade area that covers nearly 300 million people. The blocs have a combinded gross domestic product of more than 77-trillion-rand. The association is made up of Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland, while Mercosur comprises eleven nations including Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay, Uruguay and Bolivia. The organisations said in a joint statement both sides will benefit from improved market access for more than 97-percent of their exports, boosting bilateral trade.
