# The shipping sector is setting sail for a low-emissions future following the approval of the International Maritime Organisation’s Net-Zero Framework. The framework sets targets to cut emissions by at least 20-percent by 2030 and 70-percent by 2040, striving for net-zero by 2050. Key measures include a global fuel standard and a pricing mechanism for ships exceeding emission thresholds. Revenues from the scheme will support low-emission technologies and assist developing countries. The framework is set for formal adoption in October and will become mandatory in 2027.
