SA’s mining production declines by 5.4% in May despite higher mineral sales [SOUND]

# Statistics South Africa says mining production fell by 5.4-percent in May compared with the same month last year, mainly due to lower iron ore, coal and platinum group metals output. Despite the decline in production, mineral sales rose by 13.9-percent year-on-year, driven by strong sales of platinum group metals, gold and coal. Stats SA’s Juan-Pierre Terblanche says month-on-month, both mining production and mineral sales recorded declines in May:
