SARS Commissioner says procurement seen as driver of economic growth

# South African Revenue Service Commissioner Johnstone Makhubu says procurement should be judged by its contribution to economic growth, resilience and competitiveness, rather than simply securing the lowest price. Addressing the conference of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply Southern Africa in Johannesburg, Makhubu urged procurement professionals to become drivers of infrastructure delivery, investment and job creation. He says South Africa’s planned 1.1-trillion-rand infrastructure programme will depend on effective procurement systems to turn investment plans into tangible projects.
