SAHRC report reveals the staggering pervasiveness of sexual violence in schools [SOUND]

# The South African Human Rights Commission says the country does not lack legal frameworks addressing sexual violence in schools; rather, the crisis lies in fragmentation, delayed integration, and uneven enforcement. The commission has released a report that shows a staggering increase in cases of sexual violence against learners at schools. During the 2024/2025 financial year, 26-thousand-855 child abuse cases were recorded, including nine-thousand-857 cases of sexual abuse. SAHRC Commissioner Tshepo Madlingozi told the SABC that under-reporting is a major concern:
