# Union federation SAFTU says the weekend’s deadly accidents are a reminder of the continuing national road death crisis. A crash on the N1 between Prince Albert Road and Leeu-Gamka in the Western Cape claimed 21 lives, while in Mpumalanga, eight people were killed on the N17 toll road near Ermelo. SAFTU’s Asive Dyani says there must be accountability where negligence, unsafe vehicles, excessive speed or driver fatigue are established:
