# Statistics South Africa says manufacturing production fell by 4.3-percent in May compared with the same month last year, mainly due to declines in the food and beverages, metals, and wood and paper industries. However, production increased by 1.1-percent compared with April. Stats SA’s Nicolai Claassen says sales for the three months to May were up 3.2-percent, supported by strong growth in the motor vehicle and chemical industries:
