# Parliament’s Standing Committee on Appropriations is calling for urgent steps and political will to ensure adequate funding for the Border Management Authority. According to the Department of Home Affairs, the BMA’s approved organisational structure provides for 11-thousand-115 personnel. However, only two-thousand-566 positions have been filled. Currently, the BMA is underfunded by more than 2.2-billion-rand. Committee chairperson, Mmusi Maimane, says addressing this funding shortfall is vital not only for national security but also to safeguard South Africa against illicit trade and tax evasion.
