Parliament pledges stronger support for traditional kings and queens

# Parliament Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs reaffirmed its commitment to work with the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs to clarify laws governing kings and queens and ensure consistent support. Meeting the Forum for South African Majesties, the committee acknowledged concerns over land, underdevelopment, infrastructure, and budget constraints. Committee chairperson Zweli Mkhize emphasised traditional leaders’ role in rural development, social cohesion, and economic growth. The committee will reconvene in eight weeks after reviewing further legislative and administrative information.
