# The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Gauteng says it has managed to put a stop to Laerskool A.G. Visser’s planned camel races at this weekend’s Kameelfees. NSPCA’s Jacques Peacock says after alerting the Department of Agriculture, the department confirmed that the school’s Performing Animals Protection Act licence covers only riding, exhibition and training, and not racing. He says camels are sentient beings at risk of stress, injury and falls:
