# Rugby: Racing 92 owner Jacky Lorenzetti expects Springbok captain Siya Kolisi to have a significant impact at the club. The double World Cup winner was officially welcomed to the club in France yesterday. Kolisi has moved to Paris from the Sharks, who he joined in 2021. The 32-year-old is one of the French outfit’s big-name additions for the 2023/2024 campaign and will look to play a key role in the Parisians’ hunt for silverware. Coach Stuart Lancaster says they are delighted to welcome Kolisi for his sporting and human qualities.
Meanwhile, the French coach Fabien Galthié says their loss to eventual champions South Africa in the World Cup quarterfinal will scar the team for life. The Springboks edged the host nation 29-28 on their way to the title. France was one of the pre-tournament favourites, together with Ireland, who started as world number one. Galthié spoke to the media for the first time since last month’s loss. He says it was a huge disappointment after four years of hard work in which they achieved a success rate of 80-percent.
# Cricket: New Zealand improved its chances of qualifying for the World Cup semifinal with a five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in Bengaluru. Sri Lanka was limited to just 171 runs, Kusal Perera contributing 51 while Trent Boult took three wickets. Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra then set a solid platform with an 86-run opening partnership and the Black Caps reached the target in their 24th over. New Zealand, Pakistan and Afghanistan are fighting it out to join South Africa, India and Australia in the penultimate round.
# And finally: Soccer: The Colombian Football Federation has confirmed that the father of Liverpool forward Luis Diaz has been released by kidnappers and is safe. Luís Manuel Diaz was kidnapped by the left-wing guerrillas in the family’s hometown of Barrancas on the 28th of last month. Diaz’s mother was also kidnapped in the incident but she was rescued within hours after police set up roadblocks. The federation says the father was handed over to United Nations and Catholic Church officials by members of the National Liberation Army.
