# The police have executed a search and seizure warrant against controversial businessman Brown Mogotsi. Investigators into fraud, corruption, and defeating the ends of justice have seized certain devices. Police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe says Mogotsi, who survived a shooting in Vosloorus on the Gauteng East Rand on Sunday, was also met by the team handling an attempted murder case at his lawyers’ offices in Johannesburg:
# A 23-year-old man arrested in connection with the Reiger Park mass shooting has been released after the case was not placed on the court roll due to insufficient evidence. Six people were killed and three wounded in the incident over the weekend. Police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi:
# FlySafair says all flights are operating on schedule despite an employer-initiated work stoppage that began yesterday. The airline reports no delays, and today’s schedule is unaffected. Further talks with the South African Cabin Crew Association are set to continue tomorrow, while FlySafair has applied to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration for priority mediation in the public interest. The airline reaffirmed its commitment to safe and reliable operations during the ongoing negotiations.
# The World Bank and Google announced a partnership to roll out artificial intelligence-powered, open-source digital systems, including ID, payments, and data exchange, to reach up to 25 countries and 100-million people over five years. The announcement was made at the Global Digital Public Infrastructure summit in Cape Town. Head of Government Affairs and Public Policy at Google South Africa, Abongile Mashele, says digital public infrastructure is a movement to build gateways that allow every single citizen to participate in the economy and society at large.
# Road running: iTOO Special Risks has partnered with the Comrades Marathon to provide cancellation and contingency insurance for the race next year. This after the Cape Town marathon was cancelled last month due to adverse wind conditions. The cover will protect runners’ entry fees if the event is cancelled or postponed, while also safeguarding organisers’ costs. The move aims to boost participant confidence and ensure the iconic ultramarathon can continue despite unforeseen challenges.
