# In the Independent Electoral Commission’s third-quarter party funding report for the 2023-2024 financial year, Rise Mzansi received donations of over 16-million-rand followed by ActionSA with approximately 13-million-rand, and the ANC with ten-million-rand. Build One South Africa received over eight-million-rand, the Patriotic Alliance got seven-million-rand, the DA declared 2.6-million-rand and the Inkatha Freedom Party received 191-thousand-rand. The total value of donations disclosed for the quarter exceeded 59-million-rand. Standard Bank also donated 5-million-rand to the Multi-Party Democracy Fund.
Meanwhile, ActionSA’s Gauteng premier candidate, Funzi Ngobeni, says the upcoming elections present an opportunity to address the province’s economic decline. Ngobeni today unveiled a comprehensive plan focusing on economic revitalisation through strategic initiatives. These include an infrastructure roadmap, tackling abandoned properties, improving traffic systems, and expanding the provincial road network. Ngobeni pledges ethical governance with transparency, and zero tolerance for corruption, urging residents to vote for progress to reclaim Gauteng’s prosperity on 29 May:
# The father of late multi award winning rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes, Tony Forbes, says he is cautiously optimistic that justice will be served following the arrest of seven suspects for his son’s murder. Forbes attended the first court appearance of five suspects at the Durban Magistrate’s Court. Forbes expressed belief that the true masterminds remain at large:
# The financially strained Road Accident Fund could save about 3-billion-rand yearly by ceasing minor injury loss of income claims. Actuary Gregory Whittaker suggested amending the Road Accident Fund Amendment Act and addressing compensation disparities with the Compensation for Occupational Injuries and Diseases Act. Whittaker also proposed establishing a central government body to determine fair compensation for injuries, aiming to streamline the process and alleviate the RAF’s financial burden.
# Olympics: The athletes’ village for the Games in Paris has been completed, a day before schedule. French president Emmanuel Macron is the guest of honour at the inauguration ceremony, also attended by local athletes. The village consists of about 40 blocks of flats that will house 14-thousand athletes during the Summer Games, and another nine-thousand during the Paralympic Games. At least a third of the two-thousand-800 flats will be used for public housing afterwards, and the rest will become student accommodation or be sold to private homeowners.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 19-rand-24-cents and the euro at 20-rand-87-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-36-cents and Bitcoin trades at 62-thousand-686-dollars-95-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-and-38-dollars-97-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 82-dollars-7-cents a barrel.
