# KwaZulu-Natal premier Thami Ntuli has urged president Cyril Ramaphosa to prioritise political killings and probe claims made by provincial Police commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Ntuli addressed the media in Umbilo, Durban. He called for accountability, stressing confidence in Ramaphosa to respond to Mkhwanazi’s explosive allegations of political interference in crime prevention in the province:
Meanwhile, Ramaphosa reaffirmed that the national dialogue will not replace the constitutional roles of Parliament and the government. He addressed the eminent persons group at the Union Buildings in Pretoria and emphasised that the dialogue is meant to support and guide the country’s progress. Ramaphosa says it cannot override the decisions made through elections and official government processes:
# NotInMyName International says South Africa must remain committed to confronting its past to build a more just and unified future. The organisation’s president, Siyabulela Jentile, says this follows the High Court in Pretoria’s sentencing of former apartheid police officer Johan Marais to 15 years in prison for the 1987 murder of student activist Caiphus Nyoka. He says this long-overdue accountability marks an important moment in South Africa’s ongoing struggle for justice and truth:
# Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Blade Nzimande, says astronomy remains one of South Africa’s top priorities. He says the construction of the Square Kilometre Array in the Northern Cape is advancing, and it is expected to be completed by 2030. The total foreign direct investment in South Africa from the SKA Observatory member countries for the SKA Mid-Array will be 9.5-billion-rand. Nzimande says that of this amount, 3.2-billion-rand will be awarded to the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory and South African industry through construction contracts.
# Tennis: South Africa’s Donald Ramphadi and Britain’s Gregory Slade have booked their first Wimbledon final in quad wheelchair doubles after stunning second seeds Ahmet Kaplan and Sam Schroder from Turkey and the Netherlands respectively. The nail biting semifinal ended 7‑6, 1‑6, 7‑5 in their favour. They are now set for Sunday’s championship match against top seeds Guy Sasson of Israel and Niels Vink of the Netherlands. This marks a historic milestone for Ramphadi and Slade on the All England Club stage.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-90-cents and the euro at 20-rand-93-cents. One British pound costs 24-rand-19-cents and Bitcoin trades at 117-thousand-779-dollars.
