# Calvin and Family Security Services has filed a 100-million-rand defamation lawsuit against former Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department deputy chief, Revo Spies, over claims he made at the Madlanga commission. Spies alleged the company’s vehicles were illegally fitted with blue lights. CFS Services stated the allegations are false and based on gossip from Spies’ former colleagues. CFS director Calvin Mathibeli contend that Spies’ testimony is defamatory and is causing harm to their business.
Meanwhile, EFF leader Julius Malema has rejected the ANC’s proposal for uspended Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department head, Julius Mkhwanazi, to submit a written statement and not appear before Parliament’s ad hoc committee. At the Madlanga commission, Mkhwanazi was accused of leading an alleged rogue unit implicated in serious crimes, including murder. Malema says Mkhwanazi has a case to answer and must appear before the committee:
# The DA welcomes the Department of Home Affairs’ launch of the Citizenship Reinstatement Portal. In May, the Constitutional Court struck down parts of Section 6 of the South African Citizenship Act as unconstitutional. The portal will help South Africans, particularly those living abroad, verify and confirm their status and, where necessary, complete any remaining steps for the department to administratively process their citizenship. The DA’s Ludré Stevens says the portal demonstrates the potential of digital transformation:
# Western Cape Education MEC, David Maynier, says the National Senior Certificate examinations have run smoothly, with no major incidents reported. The last of the matric exams, Agricultural Management Practices, Marine Sciences or Music Comprehension, will be written tomorrow. Maynier says four-thousand-190 markers will now mark over 954-thousand exam scripts at 12 centres:
# Cricket: Proteas bowler Tabraiz Shamsi withdrew from the SA20 for personal reasons, and allrounder Thomas Kaber will replace him at MI Cape Town. The defending champions bought Shamsi at the players’ auction in September for half a million rand. That would have been his first season with the Cape Town team after playing for Paarl Royals in the first two seasons, and for Joburg Super Kings in the third. Kaber returns to the franchise he represented in a total of nine matches in the previous two seasons.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 17-rand-24-cents and the euro at 19-rand-89-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-62-cents and Bitcoin trades at 87-thousand-420-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-133-dollars-47-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 62-dollars-54-cents a barrel.
