# National police commissioner Fannie Masemola says Gauteng police are on the ground actively searching for Westbury shooting suspects at various areas of interest. Masemola visited the Sophiatown police station to get an update on the arrest of four teenage boys who are allegedly behind the mass shooting. The commissioner says five survivors are still fighting for their lives in hospital and the two killed victims have been identified as Tigan du Plessis and Diegan Ryters:
# Eight Milnerton High School learners in Cape Town have been suspended following a bullying incident that took place last week. The Western Cape Education Department says the decision ensures a fair disciplinary process and prioritises learner safety. Counselling and psycho-social support are being provided. Spokesperson Bronagh Hammond has urged the public not to share the video of the incident, stressing it deepens the victim’s trauma and violates the rights of learners involved:
# Statistics South Africa says annual consumer inflation rose slightly to 3.4-percent in September, up from 3.3-percent in August. The increase was mainly driven by higher prices in transportation, restaurants, and accommodation, while inflation in food and non-alcoholic beverages eased slightly. Meat prices surged to their highest level since 2018, with stewing beef up 32-percent year-on-year. Stats SA’s Patrick Kelly says milk and eggs, however, are cheaper, with eggs down more than eight-percent:

# United Nations rights experts has warned the United States’ covert actions and threats of using armed force against Caracas violate Venezuela’s sovereignty and the UN Charter. US president Donald Trump has waged a military campaign that he says is aimed at choking the flow of drugs from Latin America to the United States. At least six vessels, most of them speedboats, have been targeted by US strikes in the Caribbean since September, but Washington has provided no evidence that the 27 people killed so far, were drug smugglers.
# Rugby: Winger Louis Rees-Zammit should make his first Test appearance for Wales in two years after being included in the squad for their November Tests. This follows his return to rugby union after trying his hand at American football. The 24-year-old signed a contract with Bristol Bears in August. Wales’ new coach, Steve Tandy, alsy recalled Saracens prop Rhys Carre and Cardiff fly-half Callum Sheedy. The Dragons play Argentina on the ninth of next month, followed by Tests against Japan, the All Blacks and the Springboks.
