# MK Party founder Jabulani Khumalo denies any knowledge of an email to the Electoral Commission announcing his resignation and appointing Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla as his successor. He is in the High Court in Johannesburg against the IEC and the party. Khumalo was expelled in April, with former president Jacob Zuma calling him an interim leader. Khumalo’s legal counsel, Mfesane Ka-Siboto, wants the Electoral Court to declare Khumalo’s removal to be declared invalid and unlawful:
Meanwhile, Freedom Front Plus leader Pieter Groenewald has called for parties to work together as coalition talks begin. Speaking to the media, Groenewald emphasised prioritising South Africans’ needs for good governance. He reiterated the party’s stance for change in government and cautioned against coalitions with the EFF or the MK Party:
# The Eastern Cape says the provincial government is determined to provide support to families who have lost their homes and possessions, and who are in desperate need of food, water, and shelter. Several parts of the province were hit by heavy rain this weekend. Government’s spokesperson, Khuselwa Rantjie says the Buffalo City and Nelson Mandela Bay metros are most affected:
# Boxing: The National Consumer Commission and Massmart-owned retailers Makro and Game have recalled Trojan boxing bags due to a sharp object hazard. Customers who purchased these bags since January are urged to stop using them and return them for a full refund. The affected products include the large and the extra-large boxing bag. Both items have been removed from the retailers’ online platforms to ensure customer safety.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 18-rand-72-cents and the euro at 20-rand-29-cents. One British pound costs 23-rand-79-cents and Bitcoin trades at 69-thousand-75-dollars-86-cents. Gold sells at two-thousand-327-dollars-57-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 80-dollars-81-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The University of Johannesburg says not even a physical disability could stop Hester Visagie from achieving her goals. The 58-year-old recently graduated with a PhD in Nursing Science. A few months into the Covid-19 pandemic Visagie was involved in a freak motor accident, sustaining a spinal injury that required surgery. Post-surgical complications resulted in a physical disability, necessitating the use of a foot brace and a crutch. The university’s professor Annie Temane says Visagie was self-motivated, self-disciplined, passionate, and curious.
