# Police use stun grenades and rubber bullets to disperse angry Malawian nationals at the Sherwood Hall transit site in Durban this morning after some refused to be moved to the Lindela repatriation centre. The group accused authorities of separating families, saying women and children were already transported to Malawi while others were sent to Lindela. Authorities say the site is overcrowded, with one-thousand-876 of about seven-thousand people confirmed undocumented as repatriation efforts continue.
Meanwhile, eThekwini mayor Cyril Xaba says they are working closely with all relevant stakeholders to fast-track the deportations. A humanitarian crisis is unfolding as nearly ten-thousand undocumented and displaced foreign nationals descended on the site. Xaba says a court has been established on site, and he is engaging the Department of Justice to establish two additional courts that will solely deal with deportations:
# South Africa is set to receive a 16-billion-rand loan from the BRICS-backed New Development Bank to upgrade infrastructure in the country’s eight largest metropolitan municipalities. The funding will be used to improve water supply, sanitation and waste management services. The move comes as the government works to address ongoing service delivery challenges in several municipalities. President Cyril Ramaphosa has acknowledged widespread infrastructure failures and says measures are underway to improve basic services and municipal performance.
# Forum for South Africa says the system continues to produce graduates without skills, qualifications without opportunities, and hope without direction.
