# Sassa restores its self-service system after glitches
# And soccer: Italy’s captain denies claims that they demanded a bonus if they qualified for the World Cup
# President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed Justices Nambitha Dambuza-Mayosi and Katharine Savage to the Constitutional Court from the first of next month. The move follows consultations with Chief Justice Mandisa Maya and political leaders. It also follows concerns from Judges Matter following a five-month delay in appointments after last year’s interviews. Ramaphosa says Dambuza-Mayosi and Savage bring decades of legal experience and commitment to constitutional values, as South Africa marks 30-years of democracy.
# Tshwane Metro Police Department deputy chief Umashi Dlamini says he refused to assist suspended SAPS Gauteng Organised Crime sergeant, Fannie Nkosi, with tender applications for his brother, citing conflict of interest. Dlamini testified before the Madlanga commission of a long-standing relationship with Nkosi, but denied meeting him to discuss city-related business. He also denied meeting Nkosi and a close friend to murdered musician DJ Sumbody, Mpho Lekukela, for any discussions:
# Social Security Agency SASSA says its self-service portal is back online after technical glitches disrupted access to e-Life Certification. The agency apologised to beneficiaries affected by delays, which led to long queues at offices. SASSA has urged users to utilise the digital platform to avoid travel costs and congestion. The system allows secure biometric verification and ensures compliance with grant requirements. Beneficiaries are reminded to complete life certification on time to avoid payment delays or suspension.
# Soccer: Italy’s captain, Gianluigi Donnarumma, denies claims they demanded a bonus if they qualified for the World Cup. The four-time champion will miss the tournament for the third time in a row after failing to qualify. The goalkeeper says he never asked the governing body for a single euro, but the players always receive gifts when they qualify for a tournament. Italy’s failure to qualify led to the departure of head coach Gennaro Gattuso, delegation chief Gianluigi Gattuso and the president of the governing body, Gabriele Gravina.
# The financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-41-cents and the euro at 19-rand-21-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-5-cents and Bitcoin trades at 71-thousand-764-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-758-dollars-66-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 93-dollars-71-cents a barrel.
# And finally: The City of Cape Town has selected five productions as beneficiaries of the 2025/26 film fund. They are two series, Spinners and Animal Therapy, two documentaries, Omdraai and Aquanauts, and the feature film, Silas en die Ysbeer op Tafelberg. Mayoral committee member for Safety and Security, JP Smith, says the fund must empower emerging and established filmmakers by supporting original content that amplifies local voices and promotes diverse stories:
