# AfriForum wants clarity on the diplomatic status of the extradition efforts for the Gupta brothers
# The Gaza aid flotilla sets sail again after Israeli interceptions
# And cricket: CSK signs South African all-rounder Dian Forrester as a replacement for injured Jamie Overton
# AfriForum says National Director for Public Prosecutions, Andy Mothibi, must provide clarity regarding the current status of efforts to extradite the Gupta brothers from the United Arab Emirates. Last year, the Investigating Directorate Against Corruption stated it would submit a fresh application for the extradition of Rajesh and Atul Gupta, suspected of involvement in state capture. AfriForum’s Jacques Broodryk says Mothibi must indicate what obstacles continue to hinder the extradition process:
# Minister of Agriculture John Steenhuisen says South Africa’s production growth must be met with intensified diplomacy and infrastructure support. The country has officially overtaken Spain as the world’s largest exporter of citrus by volume, with 2.9 million tons exported in 2025. This shift occurred as Spanish producers navigated increasingly complex climatic conditions. The department’s spokesperson, Joylene van Wyk, says South Africa and Spain play complementary roles in the global market:
# Airports Company South Africa has appointed Charles Shilowa as acting CEO with effect from the first of July, while a formal process to appoint a permanent CEO gets underway. Current CEO, Mpumi Mpofu, will step down after six years at the helm of the state-owned airport management company at the end of June. Shilowa currently serves as group executive for capital infrastructure asset management. ACSA board chairperson, Irvin Phenyane, has thanked Mpofu for guiding the company through an unprecedented period within the global aviation sector.
Moving abroad:
# Ships from the Global Sumud Flotilla set sail for a third time from southern Turkey, after earlier attempts to deliver aid to Gaza were intercepted by Israel in international waters. The flotilla had previously departed from Spain on April 12, but Israeli forces intercepted vessels, taking more than 100 pro-Palestinian activists to Crete and detaining two others. Activists on the flotilla say they must reach Gaza to provide much-needed aid to the enclave while global attention has shifted to the impact of the Iranian war.
# Cricket: Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings have called up South African all-rounder Dian Forrester to replace the injured Englishman Jamie Overton for the remainder of the Indian Premier League season. Overton, who is CSK’s second-highest wicket-taker this season with 14, has been ruled out due to a right thigh injury. Twenty-four-year-old Forrester made his international debut for South Africa against New Zealand in March. He joins the CSK squad for a fee of approximately 1.3-million-rand.
# And the financial indicators: The dollar trades at 16-rand-66-cents and the euro at 19-rand-37-cents. One British pound costs 22-rand-23-cents and Bitcoin trades at 80-thousand-547-dollars. Gold sells at four-thousand-552-dollars-65-cents a fine ounce and Brent crude oil is quoted at 105-dollars-96-cents a barrel.
