# Patriotic Alliance leader and minister of Sports, Arts and Culture, Gayton McKenzie, says it would be a massive mistake for the ANC to remove president Cyril Ramaphosa. This follows growing rumours of his possible resignation after this weekend’s G20 leaders’ summit. Speaking on Facebook Live, McKenzie said inflation at its lowest in years and improved job creation in the third quarter show the government of national unity was moving the country in the right direction:
The Department of Tourism, in partnership with Airports Company South Africa, SA Tourism, the Gauteng Tourism Authority, and the Tourism Business Council of South Africa, will meanwhile launch a smart Tourism Visitor Information Centre at OR Tambo International Airport in Gauteng tomorrow. The interactive, paperless centre will provide real-time information on tourism, culture, and heritage across all nine provinces, welcoming G20 delegates and international visitors.
# Ekurhuleni mayor Nkosindiphile Xhakaza has ordered a comprehensive internal investigation into serious allegations against senior officials of the Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department, including suspended deputy chief Julius Mkhwanazi. Xhakaza says he has also directed the city manager to deliver a preliminary report on the investigation within 30 days:
Moving abroad:
# British prime minister Keir Starmer says he will lead the Labour Party into the next general election. A recent YouGov poll for The Times suggested that just a third of people who backed the party last year want him to lead it into the next national contest, which is due in 2029 at the latest. Some 23-percent of those voters think Starmer should quit now. He told Daily Mirror dealing with the cost of living is what he is focused on.
# Rugby: Lock RG Snyman could play his 50th Test for South Africa when they face Ireland in Dublin on Saturday. He says it will be a special occasion in the country where he played most of his club matches in the past six years. Snyman currently plays for Leinster after five seasons with Munster, and could face many current or former teammates, with 21 players from Leinster being included in the national squad. Bok coach Rassie Erasmus is expected to name his squad on Thursday afternoon.
